Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is having one of the greatest collegiate seasons ever for a running back, and it has made him one of the favorites for the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

He made another big statement for that honor on Friday night in the Mountain West conference championship game when he ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter to give the Broncos a 21-0 lead over No. 20 UNLV.

Jeanty entered Friday’s game having already rushed for 2,288 yards in his first 12 games of the season while averaging over seven yards per carry. He also had 29 total touchdowns, a total that he added to with this run.

Jeanty provides an incredible combination of power and breakaway speed and has not only helped make Boise State a playoff contender this season, but he figures to be the top running back in the 2025 NFL Draft.

His top Heisman Trophy competitor is Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter. The voters will have to decide if Jeanty’s dominance as a runner is more valuable than Hunter’s ability to excel at two different positions. It is going to be one of the most fascinating votes for the award in years.
