Kevin Durant is in a good mood after the Phoenix Suns improved to 4-1 after a 125-119 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night.
The 14-time All-Star took to social media to praise the Suns for a “great dub” before acknowledging the bettors who may have lost their wagers by telling them “better luck next time” after he scored a season-low 18 points.
Kevin Durant @KDTrey5
Great dub suns, and for my parlayers, better luck next time lol
Durant has a history of engaging with bettors who go out of their way to criticize him if they lose a wager. He sent out this message in November 2023 amid some blowback:
Kevin Durant @KDTrey5
When I get ya paid, u don’t DM me and send a small percentage to my cashapp but when them parlays don’t hit, I’m every name in the book. Yall ain’t real
Thursday’s game looked like it would be a relatively comfortable win for bettors who took the over on Durant’s point total. He had 18 going into the fourth quarter on 7-of-13 shooting, with eight coming in the Suns’ 39-point third quarter that helped them erase a 21-point deficit.
Durant wound up not even taking a shot in the final period. He did have two key blocks midway through the fourth that helped the Suns maintain their slim lead.
If you were a bettor who took the over on Durant blocks, you’re probably feeling really good today.
It is stunning to see Durant not even try to put the ball up when he’s on the floor, especially in the fourth quarter of a close game. He averaged 10.3 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting (11-of-23) in the fourth quarter of the first four games this season.
Even though things didn’t work out for the bettors on Thursday, Durant and the Suns are riding high right now. Their current three-game winning streak includes victories over the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
The Suns’ 4-1 record is tied with the Golden State Warriors for the second-best in the Western Conference, trailing only the undefeated Oklahoma City Thunder (4-0). They will look to extend their winning streak to four games against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday at the Footprint Center.
